Short bio
Ayrton Chilibeck is a Yellowknife born composer, raised in Alberta, studying composition at UBC. He comes from a background of high school and marching band in Red Deer, Alberta and was deeply involved in community music during high school.
During his first year at the University of British Columbia, he wrote two notable works, On the Scarcity of Stars, and This Star (the fifth movement of his suite Honey).

Ayrton Chilibeck is a Yellowknife born composer, raised in Alberta. Ayrton was educated in classical and jazz piano from Moira Milne, Ruston Vuori and Morgan McKee. At Lindsay Thurber High School (LTCHS), under the direction of Jennifer Mann and Andrew Snyder he learned trumpet, French horn piano, and voice, the last of which he went to further with Angela Simmons.
During Ayrton’s time in high school, he joined the Red Deer Royals, a marching band in central Alberta, and wrote several works for the band as concertmaster which he also conducted at the bands winter concerts. Ayrton also worked under Morgan McKee in the High School pit band for productions of West Side Story, Urinetown and Little Shop of Horrors.

Ayrton Chilibeck is a Yellowknife born composer, raised in Alberta. Ayrton was educated in classical and jazz piano from Moira Milne, Ruston Vuori and Morgan McKee. At Lindsay Thurber High School (LTCHS), under the direction of Jennifer Mann and Andrew Snyder he learned trumpet, French horn piano, and voice, the last of which he went to further with Angela Simmons. At High School, Ayrton’s love of composition began as he wrote words for band, choir, and small ensemble, as well as starting to score film.
During Ayrton’s time in high school, he joined the Red Deer Royals, a marching band in central Alberta, and wrote several works for the band as concertmaster which he also conducted at the bands winter concerts. He also formed his own brass ensemble, which was also under his direction as well as being a member of the LTCHS symphonic band, jazz band, chamber choir, Advanced Contemporary Ensemble, and other small ensembles. Ayrton also worked under Morgan McKee in the High School pit band for productions of West Side Story, Urinetown and Little Shop of Horrors.
After high school, Ayrton went to study Physics at Red Deer College, and, during the year, wrote his first large form symphonic work. With this, he applied to the University for British Columbia department of Music in Composition and was accepted. During his first year, he wrote two notable works, On the Scarcity of Stars, and This Star (the fifth movement of his suite Honey).
